What is an interior designer's role?

His/her mission consists of redesigning space, volumes and material, light and color, through a creative process.

He/she is able to design and create customized furniture that is adapted to your interior.

The very first step is to listen and conceptualize the client's wishes in order to come up with projects that will encompass at best the shared vision, perceived personality and physical boundaries.

The next step consists of selecting materials and sources, coordinating the works, monitoring the quality of execution, taking into account the customer's schedule and budget. Besides being creative, an interior designer also needs to be... a trouble-shooter!

The interior designer's role is much broader in scope than that of an interior decorator that focuses exclusively on colours, material and general furniture choice. The designer envisages the habitat as a whole, and applies his art and skills from space and volumes to furniture design or selection, lighting, shades and much more.

The interior designer's role is most crucial in the following three areas:

  • Space conception: habitat, administrative, industrial or business space, hotel industry, museums, leisure, renovation, etc.
  • Product design: furniture, lighting, object, textile, etc.
  • Communication: scenography, TV and movie sets, trade fair stands, corporate image and logo, etc.
